Does the shell lock?

"My favorite way to use Hide-A-Key in recent months has been this:
You remove a reason key and ask your spectator to place it in his pocket.
You show them your keychain with 2 keys. You show them very cleanly. You ask your spectator to reach out and place his two keys on his hand. They place their other hand on top.
You say that the key in their pocket will disappear from their pocket and will appear between the two keys, on the keychain, in their hands.
They take away one hand and ... the magic occurred.
You encourage them to check their pocket and while they do it, you enter the keychain with your fingertips and let the keys swing. They take out the key and look up, the keychain has only 2 keys!
