So that you can enjoy them and savor them quietly, I have chosen six routines that are particularly close to my heart. Some were created especially for this book, others have been part of my repertoire for years, but all were designed with one idea in mind: to surprise, inspire and touch the spectator, by triumphing over their logic during a real duel. For this, nothing better than using strong, visual and carefully constructed effects. You will also discover some tests. Three of them come from other lost projects, brought together here and thus completing a work that I hope you will take as much pleasure in reading as I had in designing it.

Some thoughts on choosing the magician:

The essay on the principle of equivocation takes up certain ideas from Dani and extends the reflections on methods to create an illusion of total freedom among spectators. Through concrete examples, he explains the importance of language, sentence structure and attention management to subtly guide the viewer's decisions. A valuable guide to making your effects more natural, convincing and deceptive!

Cutting The Aces Or Not

This version of the “Spectator Cuts to Aces” effect gives spectators immense freedom; they decide when and how to distribute four packets on the table. For one, he chooses a value; for another, it tells you when to stop while you deal the cards on the table; for another, the spectator cuts the deck himself... and despite all this, when the top card of each packet is revealed, it is the four aces! A very beautiful version that has always been with Dani!

Little Seven

It starts like the classic production of a four of a kind, but you only get three cards out of the expected four. The fourth is found in a way that is both logical and surprising, with the added bonus of six additional moments of magic!

Out Of This World

Paul Curry's "Out Of This World" effect is one of my Tricks favorites. I love Paul Curry's creation and the many versions that resulted from it. No matter how this effect is achieved, the final reveal is always incredibly strong! Like all my versions of "Out Of This World", this one has only one "constraint": to be able to be presented in only two piles, in order to remain faithful to the original idea posed by Hofzinser as a cartomagic problem. In this version, I use a subtle detail that plays with the viewer's perception and prepares the packet exchange.

Work like at home

Here Dani presents the concept of “working like at home”: how to create ideal and consistent conditions to best present your magic, whatever the conditions. By mastering the environment and details of the show, you will learn to gain naturalness, confidence and artistic impact thanks to Dani's valuable advice.

Triumph In The Spectator’s Hands

Passionate about the effects of “Triomphe”, here is one version among the many that I have developed. It takes place entirely in the hands of the viewer. The magician doesn't touch anything—the spectator does everything—and yet the cards shuffled face up and face down all end up facing the same way in the end. It can obviously be presented to a lay public, but it was originally designed to be shown to magicians.

Triple Prediction

This is an unusual and subtle effect. You place three cards aside as a "triple prediction", then each spectator chooses a card and puts it back into the deck. The spectators name their selection. The deck is spread face up, the three cards are no longer in the deck. The three predictions are turned over, these are the cards chosen. The tour requires no preparation.

Improved One-Ahead

I'm discussing for the first time this tool that we will use to complete a classic "time ahead" routine, which generally suffers from the fact that the last (forced) selection does not appear as free as the previous ones. The effect is classic. The spectator holds the game, the magician has another. The magician and the spectator take turns placing a card face down on the table until they each have three. When turned over, the cards match perfectly. This version—you apparently don't know the cards the spectator chose—will fool anyone even familiar with the basic concept. She will even bluff magicians.

The third time

Repetition increases attention and intensity, as shown in advertising, scenes or running gags. Whether it is a magical effect, a joke or a recurring phrase, each repetition reinforces the impact according to the given intention. But this intensification has a limit: beyond three repetitions, the effect no longer adds much. Three seems like the ideal number; four is already becoming excessive.

The three points

In this very rich essay, Dani explains the principle of the "Rule of Three", how the number three allows you to structure a trick, a statement and how to use techniques differently so as not to attract attention and to make your magic more natural.
