Duo Conference with Yoann Fontyn & Philippe Molina:

I met Yoann Fontyn, also known to many as Magicalsleight, during the Rendez-Vous Magic Dream 2025.

It didn't take me very long to know that I wanted to work with him.

There is something about Yoann that I particularly like in card magic: an immediately recognizable identity. His magic is visual, fluid, extremely worked, with this permanent impression that the cards slide, appear, disappear or transform almost on their own.

Of course, behind this apparent simplicity often hides a formidable technique. Yoann is one of those fortune tellers capable of working extremely hard on a movement so that when it is executed, we no longer see the movement. It’s not about making it difficult for the sake of making it difficult: the technique is there to produce an image, a sensation and a moment of magic as direct and aesthetic as possible.

His work has been known for a long time well beyond France. He has published numerous creations and several projects devoted to his cartomagic, including Modern Intricacies, Modern Intricacies 2, Atomic, Tenacious, Modern Ace Productions, Coma, Amber or even Joker 52. A significant part of his work has been distributed internationally, notably by Vanishing Inc.

When I met him at Magicdream, I quickly asked him to participate in one of my duo conferences. His response was immediate: yes!

I had to wait a little, since I only voluntarily produce three duo conferences per year. I like each one to remain a real event, with a guest that I really want to discover or rediscover in depth.

This meeting finally took place on Friday September 18, 2026.

And we obviously had a lot to say to each other since this conference finally reached a duration of... 4 hours and 13 minutes!

A very long evening entirely devoted to Yoann's work, his routines, his techniques, his way of constructing effects and, more broadly, his vision of card magic.

This format allowed us to go much further than the short sequences by which many know his work on social networks.

Seeing a very nice routine of a few seconds go by is one thing. Being able to stop at it, understand how it was thought of, why a particular movement was chosen rather than another, how the routine was built and what details make it possible to transform a manipulation into a real magical effect is another.

This is precisely what we did during this conference.

As always in my duo conferences, I was at his side to ask him questions, bounce back on his proposals, discuss certain techniques, compare our ways of approaching map magic and also let the conversation take us towards ideas that were not necessarily planned at the start.

This is precisely what I like about these conferences: it is not a lone magician reciting a prepared lecture in front of a camera. It’s a real conversation between two enthusiasts, with the digressions, the variations, the reflections that appear along the way and the questions asked by the magicians present during the live broadcast.

And with Yoann, there was clearly no shortage of material!

This conference is naturally aimed at lovers of beautiful maps and technique, but not only. It will also be of interest to all those who seek to understand how to make a manipulation more natural, how to give fluidity to a routine and above all how to make people forget the technique to leave only the effect.

4:13 to enter Yoann’s universe and discover what is really hidden behind this visual, precise and terribly elegant map.

On the program:

Yoann had made a choice that I found particularly interesting: to take advantage of this conference to essentially present material that he had never shown on video or explained before.

He also wanted to select truly affordable routines. Obviously, we are talking about his card magic and some of it will require work, but he had voluntarily avoided things that were unnecessarily “finger-breaking” in favor of material that we can really consider learning and integrating into our own repertoire.

We thus find very short and very visual effects, perfect for immediately capture the attention of spectators, but also longer routines built in several phases.

All the work presented is based on a principle that I particularly like:

No gimmicks. No duplicates.
Simply a deck of 52 cards.

Throughout these routines, we were able to approach many aspects of Yoann's work: flash effects, transformations, productions, longer routines, small packages, constructions in several phases and of course different techniques allowing to obtain this fluidity very characteristic of his work.

An important part of the conference is also devoted to a theme that Yoann particularly likes: Ace productions.

We talked about their mechanics, but also their construction and especially the impact that a production can have on a spectator. It’s a subject that fits perfectly with his way of working: not only considering movement, but thinking about the image produced and the way in which it will be perceived.

Yoann also focused on a double lifting technique that he particularly likes: the famous Stuart Gordon Double Lift. The opportunity to study the technique itself, its use and how he integrated it into his own work.

This conference is also full of exchanges, variations and discussions around routines, with questions from participants who were present during the live broadcast.

If you want to discover Yoann’s universe before embarking on these 4:13 a.m. lecture, you will also find a lot of videos of his work on Instagram and YouTube.

Duration: 4h13 in French.
