Is magic a concept accessible to babies aged 9 to 24 months?
This is what we invite you to discover in these conference notes. From fundamental research on the stages of development of children to their cognitive perception of the magical act. From the design of a floor animation within a nursery to its presentation. This is a unique approach that is being offered to you. Whether you practice magical art for children or just for adults. You will find material there to develop your practice and to better understand how it works.
A recognized specialist in magic aimed at very young audiences, Peter Din has undertaken research work with babies for several years, in order to determine the contribution of magical emotion among all the emotions that they are able to discover. With the help of early childhood professionals, he created targeted activities that he presents today in preschool childcare facilities. He is the author of The Great Magic of Toddlers in 2004 and The Magic Workshop Without Tears in 2008 in collaboration with Hervé Pigny.
200 pages, sewn hardcover binding, 24 cm x 16.5 cm - Bilingual French/English
Extract from the preface by Benoit Rosemont
I have been seriously practicing magic for a quarter of a century, particularly for children, and the biggest revolution in my approach to performing for children was seeing Peter Din on stage, then reading his Grande Magie des Tout Petits, more than 15 years ago.
All magicians first begin to be interested in a “trick”, an effect, a procedure. Some artists think a little more and develop a scenario, a story to take children on a wonderful adventure. But only a handful will go all the way, viewing the show as a succession of emotions, rather than a series of narrative stages or, worse, a series of tricks.
In the book you hold in your hand, Peter Din gives you all the tools you need to think your magical approach backwards... and thus put it right side up!
Peter Din presents to you very concretely here everything you need to know to get started in this magic that is as wonderful as it is demanding. It suggests all the necessary practical areas.
It’s up to you…
