In 1914, a book was released which permanently marked world illusionism: prestidigitation without devices, from French Camille Gaultier.
This encyclopedic book, signed by a learned visionary magician and excellent practitioner, not only makes a point on the best techniques and routines of his time, but it reveals a large number of news.

Even today, the hundreds of descriptions and advice that this monumental work contains are always valid and usable. It also gives an idea of the already significant advance which prevailed at the time in the field of close-up.

Four areas are treated in depth:
• The magic of the cards
• The magic of coins
• The magic of billiards
• The magic of the dice to sew

In these four cases, the author addresses the basic techniques, the advanced techniques, compares the merits of the various variants, gives advice to make them more easily. And of course, it describes the different effects to be made, from the flash effect to the worked routine.

This unique book has been exhausted for a long time. The original version could be, but at the cost of several hundred euros. The 1983 Slatkine Reprint has also been exhausted for many ages. It was time to allow a whole generation of French -speaking magicians to be able to discover or rediscover this exceptional work, at an affordable price. It's now done!

Contributions of this new edition
The layout has not been redone, this is a reprint. But of a highly enriched reprint:
• We restored the typography page after page.
• We have rectified the text according to the erratum established by the author, and deleted the residual shells.
• On the advice of Daniel Rhod, we replaced the photos of origin, of poor quality, by the 220 drawings of Donna Allen included in the edition in English of 1945, Magic Without Apparus.
• We have added on the sidelines, whenever necessary, the reference of the figure to which the text relates. The reader therefore immediately knows, as soon as he reads a description, the page where the visual illustration of this technique is located.
• A new preface has been written by Daniel Rhod, scholar and expert if any in the questions dealt with in this work.
These changes required many hours of work, but the result was worth it!

BLANKET
We restored the original cover, which had not been taken up by Slatkine in 1983. It is a drawing by Gustave Henri Jossot (1866-1951), which was one of the most displayers and caricaturists known to his time. The originality and the humor of the drawing are thus put back in the spotlight, and contribute to the artistic character of this work.

QUALITY
The book has a 24/10 rigid cover. Interior printing is on matt bedtime 115 grams. The sewn and glued binding will resist thousands of times in hand.

Quotes
"It is the primary quality of this work that is to bring together a huge background of manipulations, an essential basis for reflection and magical creativity." (Daniel Rhod)
"Prestidigitation without devices can be considered without exaggeration as the biggest work on manipulations never published." (Jean Hugard)
"The Greatest Book on Pure Sleight-Of-Hand Ever Published." (Paul Fleming)
