RAIJIN & FUJIN
These two sumptuous decks recreate the classic Japanese stories of Fujin and Raijin, with a look of the 21st century.
Fujin is the Japanese god of the wind, often represented holding a large bag of wind on his shoulders.
Raijin is the god of lightning, thunder and storms.
The design of Fujin Playing Cards and Raijin Playing Cards is the result of our collaboration with the British illustrator Fionn Jordan. He is an art traveler who lived in Japan and Taiwan for several years, so he is already deeply anchored in the culture of East Asia. Fionn is gifted to create comics, which is why we invited him to join this project. It must be difficult to imagine that this kind of oriental style is created by a Westerner!
The blue game is Fujin and the red game is Raijin. You will immediately notice the two styles used for cards backs, ghost cards and boxes. We have made 12 cards for figures with blue spikes and clover for Fujin, and hearts and red tiles for Raijin, going together as brothers. For numbers, games are personalized using Fionn Jordan watercolor traits.
To detail the care given to these games: This project lasted a year and has been revised more than ten times. During the last period of this project, Fionn had to finish his pieces in the United Kingdom due to logistical problems. This project has been the first time that Bombmagic has led a Tipartite cross-border cooperation with Taiwan, Japan and the United Kingdom, and we hope you will be delighted with the results!
