This work presents with readers eight effects of mentalism with cards. These effects revolve around the theme of the map thought by a volunteer and found by the artist thanks to his alleged mental powers.

The methods are based on an original approach that comes straight out of the creative brain of Pierre Acourt. Eric Bertrand, for his part, will have provided some technical details and will especially be responsible for writing the book.

The so -called "thought card" effect is not new. All the big cartomans have gone there from their version, and some have even become great classics of the magic of the cards. We can cite for example the famous Out of Sight, Out of Mind, Dai Vernon or the Princess Card Trick under his countless attires.

Without claiming an absolute originality, which it is difficult to prove so many methods are numerous and not always known in their entirety by the authors, we have not found a trace of comparable methods in the literature we know.

In the latter, there are above all two families of methods:

  • On the one hand those based on a certain type of forcing. As such, Thomas Baxter's book, A Card Merely Thought of (2007), is interesting.
  • On the other hand, more psychological methods, not using a game of cards at all, which generally rest on one or the other variant of the progressive anagram. The interested reader will be able to consult Ben Seward's book, COG (2013), or Adam Kordecki's pamphlet, Think (2013) for details.

The solutions offered in Cogita, which have nothing to do with these methods, therefore complete the range of tools that can be used to make the effect of the thought card.
